Aquapolis to Paldea: 7 Underpriced Pokémon Promos You're Missing from SMBR, TRR, & S&V Black Star Sets
· CardStat.pro Editorial Team
Why Promos? They're the New Hidden Gems
Look, everyone chases main set chase cards. That's fine, but true long-term value often lies in the overlooked. Promos, especially older ones, had lower distribution and are often tougher to find in pristine condition. This is why I always preach about them; they're like the secret sauce of a diversified collection. The print quality on some of these older promos from sets like Team Rocket Returns can also be hit or miss. Centering, surface scratches from packaging, and even holo bleed can make getting a high grade a nightmare. That's why those low pop PSA 10s command such premiums. We've seen this pattern repeat itself many times, as discussed in our piece on The Hidden Value of 3 SM/SWSH Black Star Promos. The Underrated 7: Aquapolis to Paldea
Let's dive into some specific cards. These are the ones I believe are currently underpriced, given their potential and current market dynamics. Always do your own research, of course, but consider these strong contenders.Lugia (Aquapolis)
This is an absolute classic. The aesthetics of Aquapolis cards with their dot-matrix style art are just phenomenal, and this Lugia is no exception. As of April 25, 2026, a PSA 10 for Lugia from Aquapolis has an estimated value of $9999.99.
Here's the thing: Aquapolis was a set produced during a transition period for the TCG, and its print runs were significantly lower than earlier or later sets. Finding a clean copy of this card, especially one that can gem, is incredibly tough. I've sent a few of these in, and the unique e-Reader strip makes them prone to scratching or edge wear. This card is a no-brainer for long-term hold.

Torchic ★ (Team Rocket Returns)
Ah, the Gold Star cards. Every time I see one, I get nostalgic. This Torchic ★ from Team Rocket Returns is a prime example of an early chase card that just keeps climbing. A PSA 10 for this little fire chicken currently sits at an estimated market value of $49999.99. That's a serious number!
Team Rocket Returns itself was a highly sought-after set, and the Gold Stars were the ultimate pulls. However, the surfaces on these older EX era cards were notoriously susceptible to micro-scratches. Centering also often left a lot to be desired. If you can find one of these raw in good condition, you've struck gold. Just look at the insane ROI we've seen from some other older cards in my Aqua Shock analysis.

Incineroar-GX (SM Black Star Promos)
Now we move into the modern era, but with a twist. This Incineroar-GX (SM38) promo is a stunning card, part of the coveted GX era promos. A PSA 10 currently sits at an estimated $9999.00. That might seem high at first glance, but consider the context.
Many of these SM Black Star Promos were bundled with product, meaning they often suffered minor wear straight out of the box. I remember getting stacks of these and very few were truly PSA 10 candidates. This specific Incineroar-GX was a SM Starter Set promo. That means it often came packed in a way that wasn't ideal for pristine condition. I've personally sent a handful of these in, and the success rate for 10s was far lower than you'd expect. The textured holo is beautiful, but also a magnet for surface issues. It's a key example from our discussion on Beyond The Booster.

Maushold (Paldea Evolved)
This might surprise some of you, but hear me out. The Maushold (226/193) Secret Rare from Paldea Evolved is a visually unique card, and its PSA 10 value is an estimated $9999.00. Why is this on my underpriced list? Because it's still relatively new, and people are overlooking its long-term potential.
The illustration rare cards like this are often production-heavy, but Maushold has a subtle charm and a committed fanbase. It's the kind of card where the art truly elevates it. Given its recent release, supply is still healthy, but getting a *perfect* sample from modern sets is still challenging with print lines and centering issues. I expect this to be a slow burner that eventually sees significant appreciation as supply dries up.

Victini ex (Scarlet & Violet Black Star Promos)
Another relatively modern promo, and one that I think is wildly undervalued at its current estimated PSA 10 price of $9999.00. Victini ex (SVP142) is from the latest generation of Black Star Promos, often found in special collection boxes.
What makes this a sleeper pick? Victini is a popular Pokémon, and this card features a fantastic full-art illustration. Modern full art promos sometimes get overlooked because they're not part of a main set's pull rate. However, the lower distribution of some of these sealed products, combined with the difficulty of perfect centering and crisp edges on textured cards, makes gem-mint copies rarer than you'd think. This is exactly the kind of card we discussed in The 3 Overlooked SWSH & SV Black Star Promos.

Grading Strategy: Hitting the 10s
So, you've found a promising raw card. Now what? Getting that PSA 10 is crucial for maximizing value. What I've learned from fifteen years of sending cards to PSA is simple: meticulous inspection. Always check centering, front and back, with a jeweler's loupe. Look for micro-scratches on the holo or surface under strong light. Check the edges for whitening, especially on darker cards. Don't forget the corners; even a tiny ding can drop a grade. I typically use a graded card sleeve and a semi-rigid holder, but I'm probably preaching to the choir here! For more insights into optimal grading, you can check our blog for further articles.A Word of Caution: The Market Ebbs and Flows
Let's be real: card values fluctuate. While I've done my best to identify underpriced gems based on historical data and market trends, there's no guarantee that every card will appreciate. New sets, card game mechanics, pop report changes, and even the overall economic climate can impact prices. Always do your own research before making purchase decisions. Not every card you submit will come back a 10. Grading isn't guaranteed, and sometimes you just get unlucky with a perfectly centered card having a tiny factory flaw. It's part of the game. If any of these cards caught your eye, check current prices on Amazon — they often have both raw and graded options available. The Bottom Line: Act Now, Or Regret Later
These seven cards represent distinct opportunities across different eras of the Pokémon TCG. From the vintage scarcity of Aquapolis and Team Rocket Returns to the modern overlooked promos, the patterns of appreciation are there if you know where to look. I'd argue that each of these, at their current PSA 10 values, offers significant upside. My advice? If you're serious about collecting or investing, keep an eye on these. Check our card database regularly for updated market prices. Don't wait until these cards are hitting their peak to jump in. The time to acquire is often when others are still scratching their heads.
