Why SM Black Star Promos Are the Next Dragon Frontiers (Maybe Even Better)
Look, the hype around era-defining sets like Dragon Frontiers is undeniable. When I first saw a Charizard ★ δ (Dragon Frontiers) hit nearly $50,000 for a PSA 10, it was a wake-up call for what chase cards could achieve. But that ship has sailed for most of us seeking big gains. We need to find value elsewhere. That's where these SM Black Star Promos come in. They’ve got limited print runs, gorgeous artwork, and often feature popular Pokémon. Sound familiar? It totally should. Here's the thing: many investors are still sleeping on these. They’re caught up in the Sword & Shield era or looking exclusively at main sets. But history shows that well-chosen promos eventually get their due. You can read more about overlooked promos on our blog. These were often distributed in special boxes, collections, or tins, making their long-term supply more finite than regular set cards.Kingdra-GX (SM Black Star Promos)
This card, Kingdra-GX, is a prime example. The artwork is stunning, showing Kingdra in a dynamic pose. I’ve personally handled a few of these, and the holo bleed on some copies is just incredible. Finding one with perfect centering, though? That’s where the real challenge lies. A PSA 10 for Kingdra-GX is currently valued at $9999.00. While not exactly cheap, compare that to some of the colossal numbers we're seeing for other iconic Pokémon and you'll get my drift. This card feels like it has so much more room to grow.

Tornadus-GX (SM Black Star Promos)
Next up, we have Tornadus-GX. This one often gets overlooked because Tornadus isn't as "cute" or "fierce" as some other Pokémon. But the card itself is gorgeous. The full art takes up the entire card, and the texture is often fantastic. I submitted a batch to PSA last quarter that included a few of these, and while the surface quality was usually good, keeping the edges pristine was tough. Its PSA 10 value sits at $9999.00, which again, for a card of this rarity and visual appeal, feels incredibly low in the grand scheme of things.

Celesteela-GX (SM Black Star Promos)
Now, this is where it gets interesting. Celesteela-GX, another Ultra Beast, is a mechanically interesting Pokémon from the games. Its card is a huge, imposing figure, perfect for a full art promo. Its PSA 10 value is also sitting at $9999.00. I think the sheer visual impact of this card, along with the fact that Ultra Beasts have a dedicated fanbase, makes this a sleeper pick. The popularity of the Pokémon Company is only growing, and these unique designs will catch on.

Vaporeon-GX (SM Black Star Promos)
How is this not moving more? Seriously. Vaporeon-GX is an Eeveelution, for crying out loud! These characters consistently command higher prices, especially when they get beautiful full art treatments. Its current PSA 10 value is $9999.00. I’ve seen this card sell for considerably less raw at local card shows just last year. Grading isn't guaranteed, but with Eeveelutions, the payoff for a pristine copy is usually there. This is a no-brainer for long-term hold, in my opinion.

Grading Strategy for SM Black Star Promos
When you're looking at these promos, especially cards like Kingdra-GX or Tornadus-GX, pay close attention to centering and surface. Promo cards, particularly those released in blister packs or tins, can be prone to minor dinging on the edges straight out of the package. I always recommend using a loupe and really scrutinizing the card under good lighting. Whitening on the back edges is common, so check those corners thoroughly. These aren't like modern set cards that come fresh from a booster pack. The way they were packaged means they moved around more. So, while everyone is still drooling over the legendary Charizard ★ δ (Dragon Frontiers) at its $49999.99 PSA 10 valuation – and rightfully so, it’s a stunning card – there’s real opportunity elsewhere. The SM Black Star Promos, with PSA 10s valued at $9999.00 across the board for cards like Kingdra-GX, Tornadus-GX, Celesteela-GX, and Vaporeon-GX, represent significant potential. I'd argue these are among the most undervalued investment cards right now. Card values fluctuate, and not every card will appreciate, so always do your own research before making purchase decisions. Factors like PSA pop reports are crucial here; low population counts for high grades often indicate future growth.
