SM & SWSH Black Star Promos: The Top 5 Most Undervalued Investment Cards You're Missing From Your PSA 10 Collection
· CardStat.pro Editorial Team
Why SM & SWSH Black Star Promos are Your Next Big Play
Let's be real, Black Star Promos often get overlooked next to main sets. But over the last few years, we've seen a massive shift. Collectors are finally realizing the scarcity and unique appeal of these cards. They often feature alternate art, special releases, or simply gorgeous Pokémon that never made it into a main set in that style. From a grading perspective, these promos can be notoriously tough. Print runs often lead to centering issues or soft corners straight out of the packaging. So, finding a clean PSA 10 copy can be a real challenge, naturally driving up their value. Just last year, we saw SM and SWSH promos outperform even some Aquapolis holographics – that should tell you something. The Top 5 Undervalued SM & SWSH Black Star Promo Investment Cards
Here are the cards I'm personally targeting right now, and why I think they're poised for significant growth.Zygarde-GX (SM Black Star Promos)
This card, smp-SM122, is a head-scratcher to me. Why isn't it getting more love? The artwork is fantastic, showcasing Zygarde-GX in a dynamic pose. I remember pulling this from a blister pack back in the day, and the holo pattern just *pops*. Its current PSA 10 value is $9999.00, which on the surface looks high, but in context, it's begging for a significant breakout.
The market average is still N/A, indicating low sales volume in that grade, which points directly to scarcity. I'm telling you, this is sleeper territory. Look, if you want to dive deeper, check our card database for more insights.

Galarian Rapidash V (SWSH Black Star Promos)
Okay, I'm biased – I'm a huge fan of the Galarian forms. This swshp-SWSH111 Galarian Rapidash V is just stunning. The pastel colors, the ethereal vibe... it's a beauty. This card has a PSA 10 value of $9999.00, again with a market average of N/A. To me, this screams "undervalued gem." The pop report for this card is still relatively low for a SWSH promo, especially for a card that came in a tin.
Grading these tins was always tough; I've personally seen more than my fair share with slight corner dings right out of the packaging. Finding a pristine copy for a PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator) 10 is harder than you think. You can also read more on our blog about other overlooked SWSH promos.

Tornadus-GX (SM Black Star Promos)
Now, this is where it gets interesting. The smp-SM134 Tornadus-GX. Yeah, I know, Tornadus isn't exactly a fan favorite like Charizard, but hear me out. This is a very clean, dynamic Full Art GX promo. Its PSA 10 value is $9999.00, and again, no consistent market average. This lack of recent sales activity for a PSA 10 isn't a red flag to me; it's an opportunity. It means the supply is super low or the cards are locked away in collections.
I had a tough time getting a 10 on this one myself. The surface on these particular promo runs often had slight roller lines, making grading a real headache. But that's exactly why low pop 10s are gold. The Pokémon Company creates so many promos, but some just hit different.

Blastoise-GX (SM Black Star Promos)
Bottom line: Blastoise sells. Always has, always will. The smp-SM189 Blastoise-GX is a beautiful card. The full-art style really makes Blastoise pop, and the blue hues are stunning. Current PSA 10 value is $9999.00, with no market average. This card was from a special collection, meaning its distribution was probably a bit more limited than some others.
When I submitted a batch of these to PSA last quarter, the centering was the biggest challenge. A lot of copies had a heavy top-to-bottom or left-to-right shift. Finding that perfectly centered one? Priceless. You can also explore our team of analysts opinions on these kinds of promo cards.

Jolteon-GX (SM Black Star Promos)
Look, Eeveelutions are consistently strong performers. The smp-SM173 Jolteon-GX is no exception. This Full Art GX promo features fantastic artwork that really captures Jolteon's speed and energy. Its PSA 10 value is $9999.00, and yes, another N/A for market average. Why is this undervalued? Because it's not a Umbreon or Espeon, that's why.
But Eeveelution collectors are completists. They *will* eventually come for these cards in high grades. I'd argue this is the sleeper pick of the set. Centering and surface quality, as with many SM promos, are your biggest hurdles to a 10. Grading Strategy Tips for Promos
When you're dealing with promos, especially SM and SWSH era ones, grading isn't guaranteed. Always inspect your cards *meticulously*. Look for whitening on edges, print lines on the holo, and especially factory defects. A loupe is your best friend here. Don't be afraid to crack out cards that come back as a PSA 9 if you genuinely believe it's a 10. Sometimes it's just grader subjectivity, or a spec of dust that can be cleaned. However, be prepared to accept the grade you get. I've sent cards in that I thought were perfect 10s and they came back 8s because of some tiny holo bleed I missed. It happens. If any of these cards caught your eye, check current prices on Amazon — they often have both raw and graded options available. The Bottom Line: Don't Sleep on Promos
Card values fluctuate — always do your own research before making purchase decisions. Not every card will appreciate, and grading isn't guaranteed. But based on my 15 years in this market, these SM and SWSH Black Star Promos are prime candidates for future growth. Their scarcity in PSA 10, coupled with great artwork and popular Pokémon, makes them irresistible investment pieces. Do your homework, be patient, and focus on acquiring cards in the best possible condition you can find. These are the cards that will truly round out a high-tier collection. Have questions?
